Prayer updates for Tuesday, October 17, 2017

Please keep these prayer requests in mind as you come before God in prayer today:

We praise God for a great beginning to Mission Emphasis Week as we were challenged on Sunday morning with a great message by Rev. Nate Bull to be people of prayer. In the evening, Rev. Lee Khang pointed us back to the excellency Christ, in whom is life and light. Please pray for God’s blessing as we continue to think about Missions this week. At Family Night on Wednesday, we will have an opportunity to meet and hear from missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators, Corey and Amy Havlicek, who are preparing to go to Mexico to help update Bible translations. Next Sunday, we will welcome Dr. Rev. Gary Bekker to the pulpit. Gary is the director of the Timothy Leadership Training Institute. He will preach a message based on Acts 13:13-52 titled Salvation to the Ends of the Earth. Pray for the Holy Spirit to open our hearts so that we might hear and heed God’s call on our lives to fulfill the Great Commission.

We express our Christian Sympathies to Dan and Michelle Koop in the passing of Dan’s mother, Janet Koop, who went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 12. Pray for God’s loving presence to comfort the Koop family in this time of loss even as they rejoice in the comfort of knowing that Janet’s faith has now become sight in the presence of her Savior.

Update: We praise the Lord for the news that the surgery Jeff DeYoung, son of Ron and Elaine DeYoung, endured on Monday went very well. The doctors were able to successfully remove the aneurysms from his aorta, and the blood is now properly flowing again to all of his major abdominal organs. Pray for God to be with Jeff as he will remain in the ICU for the next 2-3 days and for there to be no infections as he recovers. We praise God for the many answers to prayer as this was a major surgery, and we rejoice that everything went according to plan. Please continue to be in prayer for Jeff as he will face a long recovery and pray for God to be with Jeff’s whole family as they stand by him in his time of healing.

Update: We praise the Lord for the successful knee replacement surgery that Carolyn Van Hill endured on Monday. Carolyn will remain in the hospital for another day or two in recovery.  Pray for God’s healing grace to be on Carolyn and for God to provide her daily strength as she begins physical therapy.

Please pray for Ken Knap as he fell on Friday and cracked a bone in his leg.  Ken will be following up with his doctor this week to see if the injury will require more medical attention.  Pray for God’s healing grace to be upon Ken so that his leg heals quickly and so he can make a full recovery.

Please pray for Fred Zeeff as the PET scan he endured a week ago showed a cancerous mass on one of his lungs.  Pray for God’s wisdom for Fred and Edna as they meet with doctors to determine the best course of action and for Fred and Edna  to find encouragement and strength through their faith in Christ in this difficult time.

We praise the Lord for the 68th wedding anniversary that Gerald and Louise Ortman will celebrate on Friday. We give thanks for the many years of marriage that God has blessed Gerald and Louise with and we pray for God’s blessings to be with them in the years to come.

Please pray for our local supported missionaries: Barnabas Ministries, Jody Winstrom—Teen Parent Resources (Holland/Zeeland), Rev. Scott Stark—Campus Ministry at GVSU, and Jordan Palladino—Campus Ministry at WMU.  Pray for God to bless each of them in their ministry as they share the message of Christ with teens in our community and college students on the campuses of GVSU and WMU.
